Spring

--

Originally written on the 5th anniversary of the January 25th uprising in Egypt. The world is not good enough. Revolution is inevitable.

Seasons change

With diverse irregularity

Global north claims brief respite

As temperance turns temperamental

Stealing rain and bringing thunder

Inequity transcends the weather

Where drops form floods that drown the street

Suffocation in persistent heat

Sunsets on a rolling sea

Hot air rises and so do we

Piece by piece to pierce the clouds

And share the air of common space

See ourselves within each face

What has is and will have been

A Summer that never was

In truth an endless fall

A Winter search for warmth

And whispers from which comes the thaw

Steel cracks the earth and the ground shakes

Fire melts the mountains and the waters rise

Blood meets the soil and the flowers bloom

Fists pump the air and the wind changes

The patterns shift

The seasons blur

And Spring arrives everywhere at once
